    March 31, 2011 -- Updated 2053 GMT (0453 HKT)

(CNN) -- A problem has been with Neymar a Brazilian soccer player in the match of Sunday. The Scottish Football Association (SFA) has demanded an apology from their Brazilian counterparts after allegations of racism marred a friendly between the two countries. Brazil striker Neymar scored twice in the game held at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium in London but accused Scottish fans of racism after he was booed. A banana was also thrown onto the pitch but police confirmed it was thrown by a German tourist in the crowd and said they were satisfied there was no racial element to it. But Scottish fans were appalled that Neymar suggested after the match he was booed because of his color, stating they had jeered the striker due to his constant playacting. Scotland and Brazil have played many times over the years, each time in a colorful and friendly environment. Scotland supporters cleared of any involvement; we felt it was only right that we acted on behalf of our supporters to request an apology either from the player involved, or the Brazilian FA.

  17. Scientists fight flames with electric wand
    By Jason Hanna, CNN

In Harvard University scientists say they used an electric field to extinguish an open flame more than 1 foot. A group headed by chemistry professor George M. Whitesides, connected a 600-watt amplifier to a metal wire that was fixed in place and pointed at the base of a methane flame. When the amplifier was turned on, the wand-like wire, serving as an electrode, generated an oscillating electric field that essentially pushed the flame off its fuel source. This extinguished it, said Ludovico Cademartiri, a postdoctoral fellow who presented the findings in California on Sunday at a meeting of the American Chemical Society. "What we discovered is that if one uses an oscillating electric field ... there are a number of mechanisms that come into play that have much stronger effects on the flames," Cademartiri said in an interview on Wednesday. Cademartiri offered a short explanation: The electric field exerts force on charged particles in the flame, causing those particles to move quickly. Wood might be more complicated, given that hot embers might reignite the flame, but while systematic studies haven't been done with wood fires the team did extinguish a wood fire with an electric field. Such uses are just speculation, and the team has just started looking at how electric fields' effects scale to the size of flames.

  21. Four ways to have a whale of a time

They are the largest animals on the planet and spend around 90% of their lives underwater, surfacing to breathe for only fleeting moments.
From the unimaginably colossal sperm whale, to the stubbed-nosed beluga, to the sleek jet-black killer whale, the mysterious marine mammals have long been a source of intrigue and are yet still little understood. It's perhaps small wonder then that they have become a highly sought after spectacle, spawning a whale watching industry that spans the five oceans.Whether you're searching for an informative day trip or an adventure holiday, there are a variety of ways to see these astonishing creatures in their natural habitat.According to the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, the practice of organized whale watching gained momentum in San Diego in the 1950s, after the city's Cabrillo National Monument was named as a public venue for observing gray whales.Around the chilly Isle of Mull in Scotland, minke whales -- known for their inquisitiveness and "human watching" tendencies -- can be found in droves. For those who want to combine a desert island vacation with a highly educational tour of marine life, then the Maldives is the place to go.The sprawling archipelago of coral atolls located in the middle of the Indian Ocean provides a habitat for a spectacular array of deep-sea beauties, including the long-finned pilot whale, the dwarf sperm whale and the rarely sighted Bryde's whale.Although most whale tour operators are knowledgeable about the animal's migration habits, there's generally no guarantee of spotting one on any given day.
