  1. California Ferret Owners Don't Want to Be Criminals Anymore
    by Pamela Black • March 18, 2011

Ferrets are legal in every state except California and Hawaii. For the residents of California, ferret ownership has been a battle for decades. In California state many residents dislike exotic animals as pets , many others want and have pets as ferrets, but laws don’t let the animals live with humans many residents have present arguments to let exotic animals live as pets.
Ferret owners said “The ferrets I had would never have lasted a day on their own in the wild, unaccustomed to finding their own food and shelter, much less been able to reproduce and create feral ferret colonies.” this issue has come before the Commission in the first place instead of the Department of Food and Agriculture where pet ownership is regulated. The duties of the five-member Commission is to regulate wildlife, specifically hunting regulations. Have they actually ever seen a pet ferret? I can understand classifying them as exotic or specialty pets but “consumptive wildlife”

  2. Canadian Flower Shop Says No Flowers for Gay Weddings
    By Michael Jones

In every wedding, you see flowers, as a normal decoration, but this one could be the exception because it’s a lesbian wedding, so a Canadian florist is making clear that if your wedding is a same-sex wedding, she won't be providing the flowers, Kim Evans the owner of the store at first accepted to provide the flowers, but when she knew that it was a lesbian wedding she canceled the order by firing off an email to the couple. "I must respect my conscience before God and have no part in this matter," Evans wrote in the email. But, unfortunately for Evans, it is against Canadian law. "The shopkeeper has every right to her own convictions as long as she is a private citizen in her own house," said Minister Eldon Hay. "But if she opens her doors to sell flowers, then she must be prepared to meet and deal with the public." So she has no right to deny the service to this couple, who is deeply in love with one another.

  4. North Carolina Midwives Risk Arrest for Attending Home Births
    by Roxann MtJoy
How dare they expect that a woman's right to choose and her own bodily autonomy extend to her birthing experience? The time has come to tell North Carolina lawmakers that midwives are not criminals. Last month, a midwife in North Carolina was arrested for doing her job. They brought her up on charges of practicing midwifery without a license. Apparently, the North Carolina government doesn't want its women having home births. Fourteen states currently fail to recognize CPMs. That statistic is even more unreasonable when you consider just how safe home births really are. Yet lawmakers and doctors' associations everywhere appear vehemently opposed to midwife certification. In response to a proposed law in Illinois that would ensure safe transportation to the hospital in the unlikely event of an emergency during a home birth, Dr. Steven Malkin said, "I think it’s the most insane idea I’ve heard yet."
In fact, people have to tell the North Carolina legislature that they must take action to make midwifery legal.

  5. Online Activists Fight Child Pornography on Facebook
    by Amanda Kloer • March 16, 2011

Independent, multinational online watchdog organization, the Netizens Watch members, have discovered thousands of false profiles showing pornography and code words used to connect with other pedophiles on Facebook. A website millions of people use every day. Images of child pornography, from toddlers up to 14 years old and videos of abused children that can include extreme violence and heinous brutality can also be ordered on Facebook. A group of activists are fighting to stop child pornography on Facebook, by asking the company to take responsibility for preventing misuse of their site because the company has failed to create a strategy to address this growing crime. The activist Richard Lepoutre and his colleagues are fighting back. They launched the Stop Child Porn on Facebook Campaign, which serves as a call to action to both Facebook and its users to make fighting child exploitation a priority. They are also sending links to the police on child pornography from all over the world, arrests have occurred but they need help. You can help Lepoutre and Netizens Watch by signing this petition to fight child pornography on Facebook. And of course, post this campaign to your Facebook profile. Because when dedicated activists come together, we can use the world's greatest social media tool to stop what could be the world's greatest facilitator of child abuse.

The legislation would have put a cap on rent paid by HIV+ persons
based on a percentage of their income.
As we discussed in the original post, HIV management cannot exist
without people having their basic needs met, especially housing.
Poverty in America is pleased to announce a quick victory in the fight
against myths and discrimination towards the homeless!
On March 10, it was reported that New Hampshire's State Representative
Martin Harty, a Republican, suggested that individuals with mental
disabilities and the homeless should be sent to Siberia. He claims he
was making a joke. No one was laughing.

  10. Swiping Is the Easy Part
By Tara Siegel Bernard and Claire Cain Miller
The cellphone has been more than a cellphone for years, but soon it could take on an entirely new role — standing in for all of the credit and debit cards crammed into wallets. While almost every cellphone around the sea is modified for this feature, the Wallets Corporation has a lower amount of clients. This company demands for some investments from this new feature for the cellphones.
People already solve this problem, giving a small fee for every time someone swipes this ‘’credit card’’ which is given out through the different companies of banks and technology uses. There are also some problems that would be the competition. This competition is from Visa and Master Card, which still provides the services of a credit card online paying from your house or any residence with a computer. Pay-Pal and Google are involucrate too. They want to try a new payment system for the commoners, and in this way, get a better communication system between the client and the officer.
Consumers don’t even know how the fees work, states Jan Chipchase, which works with this cause. The bankers and different companies are talking throughout the different years, and now concluded that this way would be the best for an online transaction for the welfare of the consumers.

  11. Circus Elephant Abuse Caught on Video as Parliament Considers Ban on Animal Acts
    by Stephanie Feldstein
Circus owners make you believe that in the circus animals are treated as part of the family, but the video shown by Animal Defenders International shows what the harsh reality is. The star of the violent video was an 57 year old elephant named Anne, in Bobby Roberts Super Circus in U.K. Annie has been with the circus mar than 50 years. Over a three and a half week period filmed earlier this year, 48 instances were documented of Anne being hit with a metal pitchfork and kicked around the body and face. Jan Creamer, ADI's Chief Executive, said "I have no doubt that it will be claimed that this is an 'exception' and/or that the owner was not aware of the abuse ..." ADI and other animal protection groups have exposed abuse after abuse of circus animals. There is some hopeful news: the owners of the circus have announced that they're prepared to rehome Anne. It's time for the U.K. government to act. Self-regulation is not an option for an industry based on exploitation. Sign ADI's petition in support of the ban on wild animals in circuses.
